"Offering Positive Change for Your Whole Being"
As a licensed massage therapist for over 20 years, I have built a unique and reputable business integrating allopathic medicine and holistic therapies. This has been accomplished by working in conjunction with doctors & health care providers from a variety of specialties. I use a comprehensive approach to assist the client toward their health goals. I utilize skills gained in my formal training, as well as, my personal journey; such as my choice of foods and preparation of them, yoga, meditation and using herbs to support my wellness.
I like to learn by getting involved at the heart of an organization this is why I have served as committee chair and on the BOD of different organizations. I also believe the best way to master anything is by teaching it. I have had amazing opportunities to teach at professional conventions and in classrooms at home and abroad. The best feedback I have been given is my ability to simplify and crystalize information and how joyful I am while sharing my knowledge.
My decades of experience have highlighted the challenges present when trying to integrate multiple modalities. I have found that it is incredibly beneficial to have someone who is knowledgeable about the variety of modalities and, therefore, able to navigate the channels of communication. In fact, I have built my practice on such skills. While working with Family Medical Practices I have helped navigate the patients and their doctors to a main cause of their health crisis albeit physical or emotional. A big lesson I have learned through these years is pain is often associated with emotion. Helping the patient be aware of their negative thoughts gives them the opportunity to make a different choice, like how they carry themselves. In turn, this may change their posture, which might be the cause of their headache or back pain or preventing them from needing a joint replacement or even medications for depression and/or anxiety. It allows them the chance to get back in control of their life through how they behave in their day-to-day activities. As you can see I offer a much broader picture to the patient and for their doctors than a typical licensed massage therapist.
I feel a comprehensive approach in healthcare has been a missing link and one that is being highlighted in the healthcare climate today with the ACA. I have the knowledge to bridge that gap; I know how to navigate physicians to a qualified Holistic Practitioner. I am able to explain to a doctor what different modalities can offer and how that course of treatment may, or may not, be what they are hoping to accomplish and do so in an efficient manner. I also know how to teach Holistic Therapists how to communicate in the Allopathic world; something I have already implemented at the Spring AMTA Ohio Conference.
